Vermiculite is a natural material that has swelled as a result of heating.

Vermiculite is a commonly used growing medium improver, as it makes the soil more airy, more permeable to moisture and retains moisture. The difference between vermiculite and perlite is that vermiculite absorbs moisture and contains some minerals to strengthen growth (magnesium, potassium and calcium). Perlite does not absorb water.

Vermiculite is a neutral, sterile and insoluble material.

When sowing seeds, finely divided vermiculite, often mixed with perlite and coconut fiber, creates excellent conditions for seed germination and growth.

Vermiculite can also be used as a layer over germinating seeds. It is easy for small sprouts to penetrate through this layer and the vermiculite holds the moisture appropriately.

Professional growers use a lot of vermiculite and perlite in their growing media.
